Light roast coffees are a light brown in colour, with light body and no visible oils on the surface of the beans. The taste is similar to a toasted grain, and they will often have a pronounced acidity. The original flavours of the bean are retained in a light roast, far more than in a darker roast, meaning that really unique and high-quality specialty beans will present their best in this roast. A fun fact of light roast coffee is that this level of roasting retails most of the caffeine.
