The Tierradentro Reserve is a Unesco World Heritage site, as a centre of pre-hispanic culture and history for the indigenous Inza people. A group of around 90 families are now continuing the tradition, spanning several generations, of coffee growing, and have now organised independently to achieve organic certification and seek out new markets for their premium quality beans.
The rich, volcanic soil of the area, combined with the high altitude of 1800-2300 masl provide ideal growing conditions for the varietals. These grow under the shade of avocado and plantain trees and when ripe are harvested and processed by the Inza families. Each family wash and ferment the beans for around 10 hours, producing a sweet and aromatic coffee.
The coffee scores top marks on balance, and cleanliness in the cup. With a mandarin peel aroma, and tasting notes of caramel and dried fruit, this lovely blend has a rounded citrus acidity and honey sweetness.
With a delightful herbal aroma, bright acidity and caramel sweetness this is a lovely fresh and balanced cup.
The medium-light roast makes this coffee lovely in any brewing style, but a filter method will bring out the best of the natural oils.
