Antigua - Guatemala
The Antigua region is internationally famous for it’s delicious and superior quality coffee and is one of 8 regions under the Anacafe banner (with the slogan “A Rainbow of Choices”). Its soil is perfect for coffee cultivation as the area lies between 3 Volcanoes making the earth (known as Andisols) rich in minerals and plant nutrients. The climate is optimal for coffee growth with a consistent humidity of 65%, and rainfall is regularly around 800-1200mm per annum. Temperatures range from 19-22 degrees all year round which ensures a constant humid climate optimal for accelerated coffee growth. While other regions within Guatemala are also exceptional for coffee growth, the volcanic slopes of the Antigua create a highly fertile soil (between 1400-1600 meters above sea level – MASL) for favourable and complex flavours. Antigua is now one of the premier places attracting coffee exporters as the seasons for harvesting can range from August – March, giving almost year-round production.
